The George W. Bush Presidential Center has established a fund to provide free transportation for qualifying school groups to visit the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.
The field-trip program was made possible by the CFP Foundation and Longwell Family Foundation.
Funds to reimburse the cost of transportation to the Bush Presidential Library and Museum are currently available on a first-come, first-served basis, to eligible schools. This will make it easier for students and teachers to tour educational exhibits on the American Presidency, learn about President and Mrs. Bush, and access educational resources provided by the Bush Library and Museum. The Library and Museum is housed inside the George W. Bush Presidential Center, which is located on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
Transportation funds are available for Title I schools in Texas Education Service Centers Regions 10 and 11. Public-school student groups are granted free admission tickets to the Bush Presidential Library and Museum when a field trip is scheduled one month in advance. School districts must apply in order to participate.
“We’re thrilled that this fund, provided generously by the Bush Center, the CFP Foundation and the Longwell Family Foundation, allows thousands of students from the Dallas-Fort Worth area to travel to visit the Bush Presidential Library and Museum and gain a better understanding of the first Presidency of the 21st Century,” said Alan Lowe, director of the George W. Bush Presidential Museum and Library. “We’re excited to share this special opportunity with local schoolchildren.”
Under the former president’s No Child Left Behind initiative, the Title I program provides funds to local school districts to improve education and learning opportunities for disadvantaged students in all grades. The eligibility of a school to receive Title I services is determined by the percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced-cost meals and those who have demonstrated a need for services.
