IC Bus announced that the Allison Transmission FuelSense fuel-economy package will be a standard offering next spring on the school bus manufacturer’s entire vehicle line.
The entry-level FuelSense will be available for the IC Bus BE Series, CE Series and RE Series with the Allison 1000 and 2000 Series transmissions. Customers can also add the option of FuelSense Plus or FuelSense Max.
“Fuel economy improvement is increasingly important to our school bus customers and we are excited to offer FuelSense as an option,” said Trish Reed, vice president and general manager of IC Bus. “Paired with the Cummins ISB 6.7-liter engine with SCR or the MaxxForce DT, FuelSense maximizes transmission efficiency to drive fuel savings while also supporting start and stop duty cycles.”
Allison said FuelSense offers anywhere from 5 to 20 percent fuel savings, depending on the option, by automatically adapting shift schedules and torque to maximize transmission efficiency based on load, grade and duty cycle without sacrificing performance. The standard FuelSense package includes 5th Generation controls, EcoCal and Dynamic Shift Sensing. FuelSense Plus adds Neutral at Stop while FuelSense Max adds Acceleration Rate Management.
Earlier this month, IC Bus announced the FuelSense standard option will also be offered in a new CE Series propane school bus with the Allison 2500 series transmission. That bus is scheduled to go into production next summer and hit the streets in the fall.
