Lewis Campbell was named the interim CEO of Navistar and Troy Clarke was promoted to president and COO after Daniel Ustian resigned. Ustian also served as chairman of the board and president.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Ustian is leaving Navistar immediately after the company reported a $172 million second quarter loss.
“We appreciate Dan’s many contributions and accomplishments during his 37-year career at Navistar,” said Michael Hammes, Navistar’s independent lead director, in a statement. “Under his leadership, Navistar’s revenue grew from approximately $7.7 billion to approximately $14 billion as the company significantly expanded its global reach and diversified its product portfolio, including the addition of Navistar’s military business.”
A representative of IC Bus said it was “business as usual” at the school bus manufacturing arm of Navistar.
Campbell is the former CEO and president of Textron Inc., a $12 billion publicly traded industrial company. Navistar said that Campbell oversaw a “significant transformation” in the company’s business that increased efficiency of operations, consolidated manufacturing, outsourced non-core functions and increased new product development. Prior to joining Textron, Campbell was with GM for 24 years, where he was vice president and GM of the Flint Automotive Division for Buick, Oldsmobile and Cadillac and vice president and GM of GMC Truck.
Campbell holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Duke University. He also currently sits on the board of directors for Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, where he has served as lead director since 2008. He also sits on the board of directors for Sensata Technologies Holding and the board of trustees for Noblis, Inc., a non-profit science, technology and strategy firm.
Meanwhile, Clark was promoted from president of Navistar’s Truck and Engine operations. Prior he served as president of the company’s Asia-Pacific operations and before that senior vice president of strategic initiatives. Before joining Navistar in 2010, Clark was president of General Motors North America, president and managing director of GM’s Mexico operations, vice president of manufacturing and labor relations, and president of GM Asia Pacific.
Clark received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from General Motors Institute, as well as an MBA from the University of Michigan.
