Approximately 1,500 IC Bus school buses have been ordered since parent company Navistar announced in September it was tapping Cummins ISB engines that use SCR to reduce emissions, the company said.
IC Bus, Navistar’s bus brand, is set to begin actual production of its CE Series Type C school bus next month. It will be equipped with the ISB 6.7-liter diesel engine.
“The response from our customers and dealers has been tremendous, and I think that’s a real testament to the product,” John McKinney, president of IC Bus, told STN last month.
IC buses will also continue to be manufactured next year with customer options for Navistar’s MaxxForce 7 and MaxxForce DT.
Meanwhile, today’s announcement centered mostly on the first shipments of the Navistar DuraStar that is powered by the ISB. The company said 4,500 of those units have been ordered to date.
“The addition of the ISB to our portfolio in early September was the driving factor in achieving, just weeks later, our best Class 6/7 order month in two years,” said Bill Kozek, Navistar president, North America Truck and Parts. “Today we have received orders for more than 4,500 DuraStar units, and with initial customers such as Budget Truck Rental, Idealease and Penske, we are poised to regain market share in the medium-duty segment.”
