Kansas School Bus Drivers Test Skills at Roadeo

Twenty-seven school bus drivers from Northeast and Southeast districts of the statehad to maneuver school buses through a series of skills tests and obstacles on Saturday, reported WIBW.com.

The event was produced by the Kansas State Pupil Transportation Association. Bus drivers also had to perform challenges like parallel parking.

“It’s about student safety. If the drivers out here can get these events right and do them correctly, that translates to when they’re out on the road dealing with the kids. It shows they’re not in jeopardy of getting into an accident or hitting another vehicle,” said KSPTA Vice President Jason Beyers told the station.

This coming Saturday KSPTA will host a similar Roadeo for Northwest and Southwest school districts, with Northcentral and Southcentral schools competing on May 7. Winners qualify for the The 46th annual Summer Symposium and Safety Competition will be a 2 day conference held June 7 and 8, 2016 on the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson.
