The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is accepting applications until Nov. 1 for projects that seek to reduce diesel exhaust from school buses through emission retrofits.
More than $5.9 million in grant funds is available to offset the costs of installing closed crankcase filtration systems, diesel particulate filers and diesel oxidation catalysts for school buses with model-year 2006 or older diesel engines. Eligible buses must also have at least five years of useful life remaining and be used regularly to transport students on home-to-school routes.
Applicants must be public school districts or charter schools in the state of Texas that operate diesel-powered school buses on a daily route to and from schools. TCEQ said applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. CST on Nov. 1.
Grant application forms are available on the Texas Clean School Bus Program web page. Applications submitted using application forms from previous TCSB grant rounds will not be accepted.
