Allen Elected to Lead New York School Bus Contractors Group

The New York School Bus Contractors Association last week elected Bree Allen of Ethan Allen Transportation as its next president.

Allen served the past two years as NYSBCA’s vice president and has served on the board of directors since 2005. Her presidential term began immediately and she will serve in that capacity for the next two years.

She is the regional manager for Ethan Allen, one of four school bus contractors for the Kingston City School District located about 100 miles north of New York City and a part of the Trans Group of Companies.

Allen’s grandfather Ethan Allen started the company over 60 years ago, her father Robert ran the business until his death in 1991 and her mother led the operations until her retirement 10 years ago. The Trans Group acquired the contractor in 2013 and Bree Allen stayed on as regional manager.

NYSBCA said in a statement that she brings “an unparalleled depth of knowledge, skills, and insight in providing safe school transportation services.” Ethan Allen Transportation is continually recognized for its commitment to safety as well as its ongoing driver training and education programs. The company has also received numerous awards, including Ulster County School Bus Driver of the Year from the Mid-Hudson Transportation Supervisors Association.

“Bree is extremely talented and we are thrilled to have her as our next president,” added past-president Mike Martucci. “Her unique perspective, skills, experience and work ethic are all tremendous assets and I have no doubt she will exceed all expectations in propelling the school transportation industry forward throughout New York state and the rest of the country.”

Allen, who also sits on the National School Transportation Association Board of Directors, called the election “an honor” and said she looks forward to helping improve school bus safety laws and spreading the message of school bus safety and its many societal benefits.

“Providing a safe ride to school and back for over one million children in New York state every day is a responsibility the association’s members and I take very seriously,” she said. “We will continue to work with the governor’s office, the state legislature, and other stakeholders to ensure that we are doing everything possible to make that ride even safer and continue providing the best student transportation services possible.”
