Crews Work on Road Hazard After Bus Slides into Ditch

ABC 13 reported that a Texas school bus slid into a ditch because of construction in the area, but contractors repaired the issue the next day. All 10 Spring Forest Middle School volleyball players and their coach safely evacuated along with the driver and no one was hurt.

Surveillance video shows the Spring Branch ISD bus slowly inching into the turn but then bumping down into the ditch because the turn was too tight. The school district has been dealing with the area construction since before school started.

“I would say it’s a challenging environment,” said Christopher Juntti, the executive director of operations for the district. He said administrators work daily with the contractor to fix any problems.

According to the district, the contractor resolves any problems within 24 hours. Before lunch time, the contractor took action, filling the problematic corner with sand. A metal plate on top is now in place, to prevent any more problems at this intersection.

The contractor also put in temporary sidewalks for students and a police officer is on site before and after school.
