Illegal Passing on the Rise in Eau Claire, Wis.

The illegal passing of stopped school buses is on the rise in Eau Claire County, Wisconsin, reported WEAU.

According to Tamara Harvey, the student transit director of safety, the total number of citations for violations has more than doubled as compared to this time last year. The report cited 70 incidents recorded by local police since the start of the current school year.

“People need to understand that the first thing a bus driver is trying to do when they see a car coming toward them and going to run the red lights, is not getting that license plate, but to assess where everybody is. Are my kids safe?” Harvey told WEAU.

Motorists ticketed for illegally passing stopped school buses can be fined up to $350 and have four points taken off their drivers license.
