New York School Bus Fire Deemed Accidental

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that an accidental fire on Sunday night destroyed two mini-busses at a First Student bus yard in Dover Plains, New York.

State police said the buses used for the Dover Free Union School District were “completely incinerated,” but no other details were provided.

The buses reportedly had also sat unused for “well over a year,” according to Michael Tierney, the school district’s superintendent.

An article in the upcoming October edition of School Transportation News discusses how most school bus fires can be prevented by understanding their root causes.
