South Carolina School Buses: A State of Disrepair

Thousands of students in South Carolina ride a school bus every day; however, as WJCL 22 reports, a large number of these vehicles may be unsafe.

Tom Johnson, a Hilton Head parent, has two kids in Beaufort County schools. His 10-year-old son Gavin rides the bus every day.

“Three or four times this year we’ve gotten text messages from the school saying bus so and so has broke down, kids are going to be late,” Johnson said.

Johnson notices a lot of things wrong with the buses. The retired military mechanic says they are the worst he’s seen anywhere in the world. That’s why whenever they can, the Johnsons take a car to school, instead of a bus.
