Utah Residents Voice Concerns Over Proposed School Bus Depot Site

Residents in a Lindon neighborhood are urging the Timpanogos School District near Provo, Utah to reconsider a proposed location for a future school bus transportation facility, citing concerns about traffic safety, air quality and the project’s proximity to homes, reported 2 KUTV News.

The district is evaluating an open field in a residential area as one of several potential sites for a new transportation center. Owners of neigboring properties said they oppose the proposal and want the site removed from consideration.

“We live here. Our backyard borders this land,” resident Kayla Ditty told local news reporters.

Ditty said added she is particularly concerned about the potential health effects of operating a school bus depot next to the neighborhood. “My kids are playing out there,” she said. “If a bus depot was there, my biggest concern would be the health risks, the chemical emissions, the gasoline, the diesel.”

Resident McKelle Siebert also raised concerns in a social media video that drew attention to the proposal. Siebert said via the news report that increased school bus traffic could create safety hazards because of the neighborhood’s road design.

“My biggest concerns with the bus depot here are the roads,” she told reporters. “They’re pretty tight, and there are a lot of blind curves, so that’s an issue.”

She also expressed concerns about diesel exhaust and its potential impact on nearby residents.

Timpanogos School District officials have not announced whether the Lindon property has been selected. According to local news reporters, the site is one of several locations currently under evaluation. Residents said they hope district leaders will choose an alternative location farther from homes.

According to the news report, reporters contacted the Timpanogos School District by phone and email seeking information about the proposal and the site-selection process. The district did not respond before the news report was published.

It remains unclear when the district will make a decision on the location of the future transportation center or whether additional opportunities for public input will be offered before a final site is selected.
