NASDPTS Conference Details Released

The National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services this week released details to its annual conference, held November 7-11 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Richmond, Virginia.

The conference kicks off Saturday, November 7 with an opening reception at 6 p.m. EST, and ends Wednesday, November 11 with a lunch, officially concluding the conference.

Some topics to be discussed at this year’s conference include:

  • ASBC’s Ride to Opportunity Campaign. This workshop will introduce a public relations campaign developed by students at the University of Oklahoma about the benefits of the yellow school bus.
  • Incidents of Dragging Students in the Service Door. First presented at the STN EXPO, this presentation will cover incidents of children being caught in the service door of the school bus and dragged.
  • Bus Fires-Causes, New Challenges, Best Practices. Hear an interesting perspective and overview of the known causes of fires on the bus, along with the new risks being introduced and best practices for prevention.
  • U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration Report (TSA). Hear about the current status of national security concerns as they relate to school buses.
  • Joint Session with NAPT. Held at the Richmond Marriott where the NAPT Conference will take place, hear about NHTSA’s July meeting, “School Bus Occupant Protection: Taking Safety to a New Level,” as well as the agency’s safety initiatives.
  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Update. Learn about important FMCSA initiatives and actions, including the upcoming Entry Level Driver Training program and other related topics.
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Report. Get an update on the Clean Diesel Rebates program, available grants and greenhouse gas and emissions standards.
