STN EXPO Speaker Spotlight: Denny Coughlin

Denny Coughlin will be at the STN EXPO this year to discuss different topics ranging from maintenance issues to employee retention. Coughlin was the fleet manager for Minneapolis Public Schools for 25 years. He remains active in the student transportation industry as a consultant, speaker and expert witness. He considers himself “fortunate to work with law enforcement and the fire and rescue industries to teach them about the school bus.”

On Sunday, July 9, Coughlin will co-present “Different Worlds, How State Inspections and Maintenance Relate,” which explores the perspectives of a fleet manager and state inspector and how these two worlds “affect each other to make school buses more safe.” Later that day,

Coughlin will moderate a panel titled “Examining Shop Operations and Procedures to Identify Innovation,” which will cover “innovation changes in the school bus and what is required and available to monitor and service a fleet today.”

On Monday, July 10, Coughlin moderates a second panel called “Are Fire Suppression Systems Right for Your Fleet?” This session will provide an overview on the fire suppression systems available and “how they may or may not be beneficial to your operation.” On Monday afternoon, Coughlin will present “Understanding Diversity and Conflict,” a session designed to help attendees “understand the diversity within our society and be able to analyze how this contributes to every conflict”.

On Tuesday, July 11, Coughlin will moderate a third panel titled “Driver & Employee Retention: Finding the Carrot & the Stick,” which will cover topics related to hiring and retaining employees.
