Launi Harden returns to the STN EXPO this year to speak on diverse topics, including the relationship between special education and transportation, as well as school bus drivers and attendants.
Harden has over 30 years of experience in transportation and is currently the director of transportation at the Washington County School District in St. George, Utah. She is also a Certified Driver Instructor for the Utah State Office of Education. Harden is a recipient of the Peter J. Grandolfo Memorial Award for Excellence as well as the 2016 Q’Straint/Sure-Lok Special Needs Award. She is a regular presenter at both local and national conferences in the student transportation field.
On Sunday, July 9, Harden will be part of a panel titled “Special Education vs. Transportation: Who Has the Final Word?” This session will “provide an opportunity to hear from both sides of the road, special educators and transportation personnel discussing and resolving transportation challenges by responding to a series of scenarios presented.”
On Monday, July 10, Harden will participate in “Grappling with Systemic Complaints on School Bus Drivers & Attendants,” which will “discuss best practices for grappling and resolving systemic complaints about school bus drivers & attendants.”
Later that day, Harden will be a part of a panel titled “Strategies to Facilitate Transportation Decisions at IEP & IFTP Meetings.” The panel will “review successful strategies beginning with those prompting an invitation into the process as well as hints on how to prepare for attending these important meetings.
