#TSD2018: Roadeo, Foundations, IDEA Dispute Resolution and More

Attendees of the upcoming TSD Conference in Frisco, Texas will jump right into the learning on day two of the event.

The TSD Roadeo kicks off the morning of March 10 at Frisco ISD, as teams of school bus drivers and aides apply their training to the pre-check inspection, wheelchair lift operation and securement, child safety restraint systems, behavior management, and of course behind-the-wheel skills. All conference attendees can grab a free ride by yellow school bus to take in some of the action.

The lead sponsor of the Roadeo is Q’Straint/Sure-Lok, with support from ALC, BESI, IC Bus, REI and Ricon.

But first, the workshop schedule starts TSD Tenured Faculty member Pauline Gervais teaching the popular “Foundations of Special Needs Transportation.” The four-hour course provides an overview of federal law and training best-practices that no student transporter should miss, regardless if you’ve been on the job 12 months or 12 years.

Jo Anne Blade of the Special Education Resolution Center at Oklahoma State University will share information and strategies for communicating with parents as part of her breakout session, “IDEA Dispute Resolution Strategies for Student Transporters.” Other training includes dispatcher roles and responsibilities taught by the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute, wellness programs for drivers and attendants, cultivating relationships with HR, balancing the burden of Head Start and pre-K regulations, and what we as an industry can learn from operations in other countries.

Onsite registration will be available starting the morning of March 9 at the Embassy Suites Dallas-Frisco Hotel and Convention Center.
