School Bus Safety Company Announces New Driver Training Course Aimed at Making Kids Safer™

MACEDONIA, Ohio — Calling it “the most important school bus safety innovation since the installation of crossing gates,” the School Bus Safety Company unveiled its initial product offering, the Driver Training Course, aimed at achieving driver professionalism and “Making Kids Safer™” on their ride to and from school.

While the school bus remains the safest form of land transportation in the world, the majority of school bus accidents that still occur each year are the result of unsafe driver behaviors. The incidence of school bus-related student fatalities is low, according to School Bus Safety Company CEO, Mark G. Gardner, but the majority of school bus accidents that do occur each year could be prevented with more effective driver training. The company’s flagship product, the Driver Training Course, focuses on providing drivers with the professional driving skills necessary to prevent vehicular accidents.

“What makes our product so revolutionary is the breadth and depth of its content,” Gardner stated. “Our course is the only one that provides driver performance standards. These are statements of successful operating behavior that can be used to evaluate driver competence. Using these standards, school districts can certify that every driver can perform the required safe driving skills. No other school bus training course offers such a comprehensive, behavior-based curriculum.”

The Driver Training Course is comprised of 15 integrated topics from conducting pre-trip inspections to defensive driving to student management. According to Jeff Cassell, VP School District Operations, “It’s a comprehensive training system, not a conglomeration of mismatched titles like many districts have had to settle for. This curriculum was designed and written by school bus safety experts. Local transportation managers don’t have to worry about choosing the right training programs to purchase.”

The Driver Training Course Trainer’s Kit contains 15 instructional DVDs and educational posters, a classroom trainer’s guide, a behind-the wheel trainer’s guide featuring lists of performance standards and a driver study guide. Cost of the kit is $3,750, including materials for all 15 programs and one of each trainer manual. Additional driver study guides are available separately at a nominal cost. More detailed product information, a complete list of titles and ordering information is available at the company’s website: www.SchoolBusSafetyCo.com.

Future product offerings will include modules on CDL Preparation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Regulatory Compliance, Special Needs and Trainer Certification.
