SRAM Cycling Fund grants $175,000 to the Safe Routes to School National Partnership in 2011

The Safe Routes to School National Partnership (National Partnership) is excited to announce a recent grant of $175,000 from the SRAM Cycling Fund to help get more children bicycling to and from schools and in daily life. The SRAM Cycling Fund will support three critical components of the National Partnership’s work in 2011:

Federal Advocacy: SRAM’s grant will support the National Partnership’s crucial lobbying efforts in Washington D.C., which aim for continued and increased funding for Safe Routes to School, the protection of Transportation Enhancements and support for complete streets. The National Partnership will also foster key relationships with important national health partners to advance Safe Routes to School in the upcoming federal transportation bill.

Bicycle Retailer Involvement: SRAM’s funding will launch a series of National Partnership webinars, technical assistance tools and informational materials that focus specifically on bicycling within Safe Routes to School programs. The first webinar will take place in early March and focus on how bike shops can work with advocacy groups to advance Safe Routes to School programs.

Assuring Sustainability: The SRAM Cycling Fund will catalyze the National Partnership’s work to secure new corporate financial supporters in 2012 and beyond. This effort is essential to the long term sustainability of the National Partnership and the Safe Routes to School movement. See the National Partnership’s five year strategic plan.

Deb Hubsmith, Director of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership says, “The SRAM Cycling Fund grant adds value to our growing support from public health foundations by funding vital political strategies, engaging cycling retailers and developing new corporate funders.”

The mission of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership is to advocate for safe walking and bicycling to and from schools, and in daily life, to improve the health and well-being of America’s children and to foster the creation of livable, sustainable communities.
