Daimler Trucks to Recall Thomas Built Buses to Fix Emergency Exit Windows

Daimler announced it is recalling 90 Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner C2 school buses manufactured earlier this year to fix handles on emergency vertical push-out windows.

The affected 2011 and 2012 models were manufactured from July 26 through Aug. 9. The brand of affected windows are from Spectral Industries with part numbers 167977, 167982, 167985, 167990, 168005, 168006, 168025, 168027, 168028, and 168035.

Daimler explained that incorrect rivets may have been used to attach the handles used by passengers to open the windows during an emegency evacuation. If the handle is used in a non-emergency situation, and detaches, the window cannot be re-secured. Daimler added that the window will open and passenger evacuation during a real emergency would not be hindered.

Thomas owners will be notified by authorized Daimler Trucks service centers and repairs will be made free of charge. The NHTSA recall is expected to begin around Dec. 21.
