Micro Bird School Buses Recalled to Fix Seat Cushion Self-Latching Mechanism

Micro Bird announced that model-year 2010 and 2011 G5 and MBII Type A school buses to fix seat cushions provided by C.E. White do not fully latch to the seat structure.

The NHTSA recall did not mention the number of vehicles affected but notes that the buses were manufactured from April 14, 2010 through June 7 of this year. The self-latching mechanisms were found to not activate when a 48.4 pound mass is placed on the center of the seat cushion, which is in noncompliance with FMVSS 222, “School Bus Passenger Seating and Crash Protection.”

The recall report says seat cushions that are not fully latched could flip up out of position during a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners of these vehicles that repairs will be made free of charge.
