Safe Fleet Acquires Seon to Add on Mobile Surveillance

Nearly a year after its creation with the private-equity purchase of Specialty Manufacturing Inc., Safe Fleet announced it is adding Seon to its line of products. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

According to the market research firm IHS, Seon is the leading global manufacturer of video surveillance for school buses and is ranked No. 4 for transit buses. The company also provides live fleet tracking, student tracking and routing via software from U.S. Computing Inc.

Safe Fleet now eyes becoming the leading global provide of fleet safety solutions, said President and CEO John R. Knox.

“Seon has developed and built an industry-leading software and hardware platform for mobile surveillance and fleet asset tracking and management,” he added. “The Seon products and capabilities are a great addition to Safe Fleet’s existing portfolio.”

Meanwhile, Seon said its headquarters and main operations will continue operating from Coquitlam, British Columbia, and Terry Akiyama will remain president of the company.

“Customers and suppliers will continue to interact with their existing Seon contacts,” Akiyama said. “We’re very excited about joining the Safe Fleet family and working together to provide comprehensive solutions for fleets’ safety and security needs worldwide.”

Safe Fleet has headquarters in Belton, Missouri. In addition to Seon and SMI, the company also consists of bus brands Pretoria, which makes lighting, ducting and luggage systems, and Transpec, a manufacturer of stop arms, step treads, roof hatches and door mechanisms.
