A 13-year-old student who was waiting for their school bus is in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle in Albion, Michigan.

The Albion Department of Public Safety released a statement Wednesday on social media confirming the 13-year-old girl was waiting for a school bus near the intersection of 27 Mile Road and Westover Blvd at approximately 6:30 a.m. when a vehicle struck her.

The name of the motorist, a 33-year-old man, was released but he has reportedly been cooperating with the investigation.

It is believed the child was only standing a few feet from the edge of the road when she was struck. Officers provided emergency medical care until paramedics arrived, and the girl was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. Neither the identity of the student nor the school she attends was revealed at the time of this writing.

ADPS is continuing to investigate the cause of the traffic crash.
