Some 480,000 school buses are running again throughout communities, or will be soon, as the nation’s school children are heading back to class.
Cobb County Public Schools in Marietta, Ga., started the 2011-2012 school year today, and that also meant the return of yellow buses on routes.
On the district’s website, Cobb County asked parents and other community members to, “Please allow additional time at bus stops to accommodate
fluctuating traffic patterns during the first two weeks of school.”
The start of school also means the return of transportation employees who may have been off for the entire summer. Cobb County employs 943 bus drivers and 145 bus monitors. The district also runs 868 Type C conventional buses and 281 special needs buses on a total of 887 routes per day. The buses make 21,596 stops and travel more than 72,000 miles round trip each school day.
