Speaker Spotlight: Kathleen Furneaux

The executive director of the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute in Syracuse, New York, returns to the TSD Conference this year, as she is second to none when it comes to providing training and professional development to conference attendees.

A member of the TSD National Board of Advisors, Furneaux is renowned throughout the industry for the certification programs she has developed and led, as well as for the vital research she provides.

She’ll share her wealth of knowledge with conference attendees on “Trapped in the Service Door: Dragging Incidents & Prevention Strategies” on Sunday, March 13. She will discuss the nearly 30 instances from the past decade in which students were dragged by their buses in the entrance door, and ways to curb this concerning trend.

Furneaux’s second workshop is “Defusing Violence Among Young Children on the Bus”, where she will address potential origins of violent behavior in young children, in an attempt to help transporters understand how to defuse it on school buses. Lastly, in her workshop “Creating Evacuation Plans for Students with Special Needs & Preschoolers”, she will uncover the vital steps to successfully preparing or re-writing evacuation plans and their effect on bus routes, IEPs and more. Both of these workshops will be held on Tuesday, March 15.

You don’t want to miss Furneaux and other TSD presenters, who will provide the “meat and potatoes” to attendees’ most pressing challenges and issues. The 2016 full conference agenda can now be viewed on the conference website. So get your approval and register today at the Early Bird registration rate, which has been extended to February 6!

We’ll see you in Louisville!
