School bus routing technology firm Education Logistics, Inc. has contracted industry leader Derek Graham to provided consulting services.
Graham, a former president of the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services, retired in February from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as the state’s student transportation director after 22 years in the position. He oversaw state allocations for efficiency-based funding, information systems, and school bus inspection, maintenance and new vehicle replacement.
Prior to being named state director in 1995, Graham oversaw the statewide implementation of the Transportation Information Management System, or TIMS, that provides computer-assisted school bus routing and scheduling and utilizes Edulog software to create and manage school transportation plans.
Graham told STN that he began training on Edulog software in March at the company’s Student Transportation Leadership Conference in Las Vegas. He added that he’s been working with the company since by offering his state director perspective on local school district routing operations.
Jason Corbally, Edulog’s president, said Graham will focus on policy, funding and efficiency projects as wells a “contributing to a wider array of initiatives that will be directly, or indirectly, beneficial to our clients throughout the country.”
“Derek brings vast knowledge and variety of experiences in the industry, and we are excited to expand our collective expertise by adding him to our team,” Corbally added in a statement. “His proactive approach to numerous projects – including statewide routing, stop-arm violation awareness, public awareness including Love the Bus as examples – is well-recognized.”
Graham is also a member of an ongoing study for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on usage of lap-shoulder seat belts in school buses.
