School Bus Recall to Fix Potential of Students Snagging Clothing on Loading Doors

Collins Bus Corporation announced a recall of 171 school buses equipped with loading doors that can catch book-bag drawstrings or clothing.

The 171 Collins, Corbeil and Mid Bus school buses and MFSABs with model numbers SL, SH, DH and DE were manufactured from March 12 through July 3 of this year. The double-out door contains a gap at the door bracket and support hardware upon which Collins Bus said could book bags or clothes could be entangled. The company added that if a student becomes entangled or snagged by the handrail, the bus driver may not notice and could start the bus, which could potentially pull student under the wheels.

Collins Bus is notifying owners that dealers will repair the electrical panel cover free of charge. The NHTSA recall campaign is set to begin this week.
