Wife of Retired Wyoming State Director Pickering Passes Away

Kathy Pickering, wife of former Wyoming State Director of Student Transportation D. Leeds Pickering, passed away on Aug. 18 after suffering a stroke earlier this month. She was 58.

She was a special education teacher for Laramie County School District #1 for the past 23 years and had lived in Cheyene, Wyo., for 31 years. She was born Jan. 8, 1953 in Dubuque, Iowa, according to the WyomingNews.com.

In addition to her husband,whom she married on Dec. 28, 1974, Kathy is survived by daughters Kate Ramirez (Jose) and Rosi Allen (Joe), all of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a sister, Jean Stierman of Solon, Iowa; two brothers, Albert “A.J.” Clemens and Richard Clemens, both of Dubuque; and two granddaughters, Gabby Ramirez and Regan Allen.

She was preceded in death earlier this year by grandson Colter Allen, parents Albert and Evelyn Clemens, and brother Michael Clemens.

Memorial services were scheduled for 4 p.m. local time Thursday at North Christian Church in Cheyenne. Bob Riley, executive director of NASDPTS, told School Transportation News that he was en route to the service.

A private family burial of her urn will take place prior to the services. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Leeds Pickering retired last August from the Wyoming Department of Education after a 28-year career. He was succeeded by David Koskelowski.
