Fla. Politicians and Supporters Diverge on Safety Bill

A bill to enhance the penalties for passing a stopped school bus called for the use of cameras to capture perpetrators. The Florida state senator who sponsored the bill has dropped this provision much to the chagrin of the supporters of ‘Gabby’s Law,’ according to wfsu.

SB 1570 is heading to the Florida State Senate floor after passing its last committee; however, Sen. David Simmons changed the measure. He made the call at the request of Sen. Jeff Brandes, who chairs the Senate Transportation Committee, who has long opposed red light cameras and has tried to repeal them.
