A student in Crow Wing County, Minnesota used a radio to ask for help after the school bus driver had a medical emergency with over a dozen students on board, reported Fox 9.
The incident reportedly occurred March 25 just after 3 p.m., when students on board the bus noticed the driver was not taking his usual route and was not responding normally to the children.
According to the news report, some of the children on board observed blood coming out of the driver’s ear. One of the children then jumped into action by using the bus radio to call for assistance, while other students contacted their parents who communicated with law enforcement.
Police say via the article that the 74-year-old bus driver eventually stopped near County Road 45, allowing the children to get off the bus. Law enforcement and EMS responded to the scene and transported the driver, whose identity was not released in this writing, to the hospital.
The school bus was reportedly transporting students from kindergarten through fourth grade. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident. The children were either released to their parents or transported home by another bus.
It is unclear what medical condition the driver suffered but his condition was described as serious by law enforcement. Officers told local news reporters that they were very fortunate the kids took action in this situation.
