“School bus drivers play a critical role in the lives and educations of the nation’s students, and the Love the Bus program is a fun way for us to recognize their dedication,” said Doris Bean, manager of transportation student support services at Glendale Elementary School District #40 in Arizona. Like many districts nationwide this month, Glendale is encouraging parents and students to say “thank you” to their school bus drivers.
Bean said Challenger School was one of the sites to celebrate Love the Bus month. Fourth grade students participated by sharing stories, performing a school bus search on the Internet on air pollution, ride sharing and propane buses as well as tips for sschool bus safety and anti-bullying. The students also made Valentine’s Day cards for the school bus drivers.
Bean added that Superintendent Joe Quintana and Assistant Superintendent Mike Barragan attended celebrations as did representatives from thhe Child Safety Network School Bus and the Boys and Girls Club.
“The real hit of the show was Howler from the Phoenix Coyotes (NHL) team,” she said. “He came out and participated in all the activities with the students.”
