The ‘Big Easy’ OKs Cameras to Catch Violators

The city of New Orleans recently passed an ordinance to allow the use of cameras on school buses to photograph vehicles that ignore the stop arm.

It is something that has been passed before in other areas and, I’m sure, we will see more of in the future. The cameras will act as red-light cameras and other automated traffic-enforcement devices, catching illegal passers and hopefully steer violators away from repeat performances after they receive a ticket in the mail with a $300 fine attached to it, which includes a $35 to $80 administrative fee and a $75 penalty for those who fail to pay the fine or challenge it by the deadline.

The move will not only work to deter this type of highly dangerous driving behavior, it will generate funding for the city. But, if it works, not too much…hopefully.
