Speaker Spotlight: Miriam Manary

The latest addition to the TSD Conference National Board of Advisors, Manary is our resident expert in crash-testing wheelchairs, which is why she will present at this year’s conference on this important topic as well as co-present on some related topics.

Manary is the senior engineering research assistant at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute and is the chair of the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North American’s Standards Committee on Wheelchairs and Transportation. She also is the co-chair of the SAE Child Restraint System committee.

On Saturday, March 12, Manary will present “Wheelchair Basics & What Crash Testing Teaches Us”. For this workshop, she will rely in part on UMTRI crash-test videos to teach the “ABC’s” of wheelchair securement and occupant restraint. Then on Sunday, March 13, she will join other presenters for the course “NHTSA Child Passenger Safety Restraint Systems on School Buses”, which will be held at the Kentucky International Convention Center.

Lastly, on Tuesday, March 15, she will be a part of the “OT/PT/Transporter Forum”, held annually at the conference and addresses timely issues related to wheelchair securement and occupant protection for students who use wheelchairs.

You don’t want to miss Manary and other TSD presenters, who will provide the “meat and potatoes” to attendees’ most pressing challenges and issues. The 2016 full conference agenda can now be viewed on the conference website. So get your approval and register today at the standard registration rate. Online registration end on March 1, but on-site registration is available.

We’ll see you in Louisville!
