WASHINGTON, D.C. – American Bus Association (ABA) President & CEO Peter J. Pantuso has been selected as one of eight new members of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee (MCSAC), FMCSA Administrator Anne S. Ferro announced this week.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to represent the motorcoach industry and its safety-minded community of operators as a member of this governmental advisory committee,” Pantuso said. “Motorcoaches are the safest form of surface transportation, but our industry is committed to making the safest even safer. I hope to serve the public on this panel by advocating for sound, science-based regulations and stiffer law enforcement to keep illegal operators off of the roads.”
Established by Congress in 2006, the MCSAC is charged with providing information, advice and recommendations to FMCSA on motor carrier safety programs and regulations.
“Your extensive knowledge of motor carrier issues in this sector will prove invaluable in completing the advisory committee’s work,” Ferro wrote Pantuso in a formal letter of invitation. “I appreciate your commitment to motor carrier safety, and look forward to working with the advisory committee in advancing our shared goal of safety.”
The eight new MCSAC members will begin their two-year terms on June 8, 2010. The other new members joining Pantuso are Kevin O’Brien, Director of Motor Carrier and Driver Safety Services, New York Department of Motor Vehicles; LaMont Byrd, Director of Health and Safety Department, International Brotherhood of Teamsters; Norman Dofflemyer, Commercial Motor Vehicle Division Commander, Maryland Department of State Police; Thomas Jacques, Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Officer, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Bureau of Police; John Lannen, Executive Director, Truck Safety Coalition; Jane Mathis, Board Member, Parents Against Tired Truckers; and Danny Schnautz, Professional Truck Driver, Clark Freight Lines, Inc.
