WARRENVILLE, Ill. – Durham School Services, Stock Transportation and Petermann Bus – all leaders in student transportation across North America – are celebrating the American School Bus Council’s Love the Bus Month throughout February.
The campaign promotes the idea that every person involved in our schools is critical to our children’s success. Love the Bus Month raises awareness and encourages appreciation of the hundreds of thousands of school bus drivers who safely transport students every day.
“Safely transporting children to school is a significant responsibility,” said David A. Duke, Chief Executive Officer of Durham, Stock and Petermann. “It is important that we recognize the commitment our drivers and support staff make every day. We thank all of our employees for their continued dedication to safety and the students they serve.”
Yellow school buses, designed to be safer than passenger vehicles in avoiding crashes and preventing injury, represent the largest and safest transportation system in the country. According to the Transportation Research Board, a child is 13 times safer in a school bus than in other modes of travel. School bus drivers receive specialized classroom and behind‐the‐wheel training in safety and security; undergo drug and alcohol testing and background checks; and get their driving records examined.
The American School Bus Council, which launched the Love the Bus program in 2007, is asking students, parents, teachers and community members to share stories about their favorite school bus drivers and make Valentine’s e‐cards to thank exceptional drivers through the website www.LoveTheBus.com. The website also offers a toolkit for educators that provides best practices for communicating about pupil transportation.
