Orbit Software Collaborates With Pearson to Streamline Management of Student Transportation Data

POTTSTOWN, Pa. — Orbit Software today announced an agreement with Pearson to provide customers of PowerSchool, a leading student information system (SIS), with direct access to the most advanced bus routing solution in K-12 education, increasing the flow of information between parents and transportation and district staff.

Orbit Software’s BusBoss program allows school district transportation personnel to easily use their PowerSchool data to quickly update their student information to determine rider eligibility, update routes, and issue bus passes.

“We are always trying to help customers even when budgets are tight; student safety is our number one priority,” commented Sonia Mastros, president of Orbit Software. “With the ability to have direct access to the PowerSchool database, BusBoss users will not have to wait for updated information when new students register, or students move or withdraw from the district entirely. Routing can be handled quickly, reducing the time it takes to modify the routes. Parents and district staff will be able to look up student routing assignments without having to call the district, giving Transportation staff the time they need to ensure student safety.”

For most clients, BusBoss will pay for itself in terms of cost savings, improved transportation department efficiency, and improved transportation service within 1 to 3 years. Cost savings can be in the form of reducing or eliminating the need for additional vehicles for transporting school children by creating more efficient bus routes. The elimination of just one bus is more than enough to pay for the cost of the software.

“Joining forces with Orbit Software enhances PowerSchool’s student transportation capabilities,” said Luyen Chou, Chief Product Officer for Pearson’s K-12 Technology Group. “This added functionality will help our customers save time, money, and resources by streamlining bus routes, organizing transportation schedules, and retrieving real-time student information such as attendance and safety more efficiently.”

Orbit Software routes more than 1,000,000 students, throughout USA and Canada.Integration between BusBoss and PowerSchool ensures every student is accounted for when tracking student ridership and school attendance. District state funding is maximized when both numbers are in sync.

BusBoss will also improve audit management by minimizing the chance for adverse audit findings. BusBoss automatically keeps crucial records to ensure districts receive timely, accurate state reimbursement without the embarrassment of publicized audit findings. BusBoss helps school officials feel confident about receiving the district’s full state entitlement.
