The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority (OSTA) has appointed Vicky Kyriaco as its new General Manager and Chief Administrative Officer, effective Monday, 28 November 2011. Ms. Kyriaco has over twenty years’ experience in management and leadership roles, primarily in the transportation industry in Windsor and Ottawa. With a strong background in strategic planning, change management and stakeholder engagement, she will be responsible for moving ahead with a comprehensive plan for improving efficiency and service for the 60,000 students of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and the Ottawa Catholic School Board who are bused to school each day.
“We were fortunate to have a number of highly qualified applicants for this position,” says Lynn Scott, Chair of the OSTA Board, “but we were particularly impressed by Ms. Kyriaco’s track record of engaging the public in productive dialogue around sometimes-controversial changes to the way service is provided, and by her capacity for taking strategic approaches to difficult challenges.”
Ms. Kyriaco brings a solid commitment to developing a culture of continuous improvement, mobilizing cohesive teams of OSTA staff and external partners to work together towards common goals. In addition, her personal experience with teaching and learning has given her a core understanding of the motivations and challenges of education that can only enhance OSTA’s working relationship with the schools the students attend.
The OSTA Board greatly appreciates the service of Dr. Rose-Marie Batley as interim General Manager since March 2011. In appointing Ms. Kyriaco, the Board looks forward to continued progress towards a fully integrated student transportation service.
