Oswego Community Unit School District Chooses First Student as School Transportation Provider

CINCINNATI – First Student, Inc. has been awarded a three-year contract to provide school transportation to the Oswego Community Unit School District in Illinois. The company will provide transportation services to the district beginning with the 2012-2013 school year.

First Student will add additional safety features to district’s current fleet of 60 buses, including GPS tracking systems which allow the company to know the speed and location of each bus at any given time, the Child Check-Mate electronic reminder system designed to ensure no child is left unattended on a bus, and crossing gates to allow children to cross in front of the bus at a safe distance. The buses serving the Oswego Community Unit School District will also have cameras to monitor on-board activities.

First Student is in the process of hiring the district’s current drivers and will add additional staff from the local area. Each new First Student driver undergoes an extensive training program before transporting any students. This training consists of classroom, behind-the-wheel and safety orientation training.

At First Student, the safety and security of the six million students the company transports throughout North America is its core value.
