Blue Bird Recalls Several Dozen School Buses to Fix Emergency Exit Windows

Blue Bird said 59 All American and Vision school buses are being recalled because incorrect rivets may have been used to attached handles to emergency exit windows.

The NHTSA recall affects these model-year 2012 school buses manufactured between Aug. 2 and Sept. 11 of this year. Affected part numbers are: 129185, 129195, 129197, 129199, 129201, 129202, 129203, 129205, 129207, 129209, 129210, 129228, 129230, 129232, 129234, 129236, 129238, 129240, 129242, and 129243.

The window handles could detach, which could not allow the emergency window to not be re-secured. In this event, students would be at risk of falling or climbing out of the bus. However, Blue Bird added that if the handle detached during an emergency evacuation, the exit window will still open and student evacuation would not be hindered.

With a target date of Nov. 14, Blue Bird said it would notify owners of repair kits that are available free of charge.
