The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee announced last week that Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Jack Reed (D-Rhode Island) will serve in leadership roles in the Transportation Housing and Urban Development (THUD) subcommittee.
Collins is the new chairman while Reed is the new ranking member.
“As Chairman of the Senate Transportation and Housing Appropriations Subcommittee, I will continue to advocate for responsible investments to improve our nation’s aging infrastructure. I’ve seen first-hand the positive effects of investing in our ports, railroads, and crumbling roads and bridges to improve safety, boost our economy and create much-needed jobs,” said Collins.
“Chairman Collins has a proven record of bipartisan leadership. She is someone who studies the issues and offers thoughtful solutions. I look forward to working with her to improve our housing and transportation infrastructure and accelerate economic growth,” said Reed.
“I look forward to working closely with my friend and colleague, Senator Reed, as we maintain the spirit and bipartisanship for which our committee is known,” Collins continued.
This subcommittee has jurisdiction over the Department of Transportation as well as the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
