Filmmaker Releases Book on 50-Year-Old Kentucky Bus Tragedy

While filming The Very Worst Thing, director Michael Crisp wrote a book that details all of his experiences while making the film about the 1958 Floyd County school bus tragedy.

worstIt takes the reader through the entire process,” said Crisp, “including the research, interviews and audience response to this historic documentary film.”

On Feb. 28, 1958 a bus carrying 48 elementary and high school students collided with a tow truck on US Highway 23 in Kentucky and rolled over a steep embankment into the Big Sandy River.

More than half the children and the driver died in the accident. The film looks back at the tragic event and revisits those affected by the accident and how it changed their lives forever.

The film has been screened a number of times in Kentucky since January, and Crisp said he is looking to bring it to more audiences if he is able to raise enough money. Remix Films, which produced the movie, is offering sponsorship opportunities to anyone interested in assisting in this.
