Henry Elected Next NAPT President, Kalmes Returns to Board and Mannella Re-Elected

Keith Henry traded in his director-at-large hat for one that fits the president-elect during last week’s election held at the National Association for Pupil Transportation Summit in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Henry, director of transportation at Independence (Mo.) Schoo District, will succeed Don Carnahan when the two-year term for the director of business development for Zonar Systems expires at the conclusion of the 2015 NAPT Summit. Carnahan took over as president last week for Alexandra Robinson, the executive director of transportation for the New York City Board of Education who expanded NAPT’s global reach and introduced North American school bus safety to countries such as Saudia Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, China and Turkey.

Past NAPT President Steve Kalmes also joined the board as the new director of Region 5 as did Dwight Gleaves as the affiliate member direcor. Peter Mannella added another term as Region 1 director.

NAPT bylaws stipulate that nominees who run unopposed automatically are elected onto the board. This rule applied to Henry as well as to Manella, executive director of the New York Association for Pupil Transportation. Also running unopposed was Dwight Gleaves, the vice president of sales and pupil transportation at Hydrotex.

Kalmes, the retired director of transportation for the Anchorage School District, was nominated during NAPT’s opening business session on Oct. 20 to run for director of Region 5. That opened up a run-off election between Kalmes and encumbent David Anderson, director of transportation for Anderson Five Star Schools in Thornton, Colo.
