More Than 100 School Buses in Texas to Be Retrofitted With Emissions Control Systems

Beginning next month, more than 100 school buses in Texas will be retrofitted with emission control systems by Clean Diesel Technologies.

The cleantech emissions control company today reported its Heavy Duty Diesel Systems division received more than $1 million in orders for school bus retrofits in the Lone Star state. All retrofits are expected to be completed in July.

The buses will be retrofitted using Clean Diesel’s Purifilter Plus, a hybrid diesel particulate filter system that, according to the company, reduces particulate matter by more than 85 percent. The system, which employs both passive and active regeneration, provides a simple plug-in regeneration that can be executed mid-day. This means school districts can plug in during that time with minimal interruption to their typical school bus schedules. The system also is verified by the Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board.

According to the Texas Education Agency, more than 33 percent of local school bus fleets are more than 10 years old. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality supports these retrofits through the implementation of the Texas Clean School Bus Grant Program.
