NAPT sent a communique to members asking them to take a five-minute online survey to help the Environmental Protection Agency determine how it can assist school districts overcome the latest price surcharges on new school buses.
NAPT said the EPA is developing an innovative new grant program to provide financial support for school districts facing a price surcharge when purchasing new buses. The survey seeks to capture some baseline data about recent purchases of new school buses that will drive the grants.
“Whenever EPA or any of our other partners at the federal level reach out for our help, they do it because they know NAPT members are the heartbeat of the industry,” said Alexandra Robinson, NAPT president and executive director of transportation at the New York City Board of Education. “We are happy to help them gather information and are excited to work with them to develop a new program that will help the industry nationwide.”
The survey begins by asking members if they have recently purchased model-year 2010, 2011 or 2012 buses.
The partnership is part of NAPT’s Public Policy Agenda. The EPA previously made funding for school bus purchases as well as retrofits and engine repowers with the Clean School Bus USA program. A few years ago it was rolled up under the National Clean Diesel Campaign, which administers funding appropriated by Congress through the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act.
