The National School Transportation Association (NSTA) held its Mid-Winter Meeting in San Diego, California January 18-21, 2015.
Speakers addressing meeting attendees included Christine Koester of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), who spoke about the School Bus Rebate Program that recently awarded 76 school districts nationwide with their share of $3 million in total money toward offsetting the cost of purchasing new school buses to replace older diesel buses.
Jay Adams Knight of Jackson Lewis, a national law firm specializing in employment and labor issues, who discussed the latest changes and updates in health care reform. In addition, attendees heard updates from the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT), the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS), the American School Bus Council (ASBC) and the National Congress on School Transportation (NCST).
Meeting attendees also participated in three committee meetings, to include the Association and Industry Development Committee, the Government Relations Committee and the Safety and Security Committee. Issues discussed in committee included everything from future meetings of the association to the upcoming negotiated rulemaking on entry-level driver training to updates to the 2015 safety competition.
“We have had a great meeting in San Diego. Our meetings offer our attendees a great opportunity to spend time together, to network and to work toward the common goal of advancing contracting in the United States,” stated NSTA President Tim Flood.
NSTA’s 2015 Annual Meeting and Convention will be in Minneapolis, Minnesota July 18-22, and the 2016 Mid-Winter Meeting will be in Bonita Springs, Florida, January 23-27.
