New Screening Dates Scheduled for School Bus Documentary “La Camioneta”

Next week will be the first screening this year for the documentary “La Camioneta,” which shows how decommissioned American school buses travel to Guatemala to be transformed into brightly colored mass transit buses.

The screening is scheduled for May 21 at the Utah Film Center. The documentary then travels to Albuquerque, N.M., Brooklyn, N.Y., Los Angeles, San Diego, Columbus, Ohio, and Houston. Detailed information on all eight screenings is available here. More screening dates are to be announced in the near future.

The documentary, which screened at the NAPT Annual Summit two years ago and premiered last year at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Music Festival, tells the story of one school bus’ transformation and its sometimes dangerous journey to Guatemala. Those who own and drive these buses in Guatemala also encounter dangerous situations as they face demands, or death, by local gangs to pay extortion money
