Rogan Takes Helm of N.Y. School Bus Driver Instructor Advisory Committee

The New York State Education Department tagged James Rogan of Chestnut Ridge Transportation Inc. as the new chairman of its School Bus Driver Instructor Advisory Committee.

James Rogan

Rogan is director of safety and training at the school bus contractor located in Chestnut Ridge near the New Jersey border. Rogan is a longtime school bus safety advocate and has been active with SBDI since 2009. The SBDI Advisory Committee is responsible for forming a body of pupil transportation safety instructors who meet regularly to advise the department about safety-training curricula for school bus drivers, monitors and attendants across the state.

Prior to this appointment, Rogan served on the several subcommittees, including the RFP Advanced Course Review, RFP Basic Course Review, PDS Curriculum Review and Curriculum Review, where he acted as chairman. On these committees, he successfully adopted new pre-service curriculum and SBDI curriculum.

“I look forward to sharing my expertise with fellow committee members as we review and develop curriculum aimed at maintaining the highest safety standards. The work we do impacts school transportation professionals throughout New York State whose job it is to ensure the safety of the children they transport each day from home to school and back again,” Rogan said, adding that no other job carries such a profound responsibility.

In New York State, more than 2.3 million children ride school buses each day. Chestnut Ridge Transportation Inc. provides daily school bus transportation for 17,000-plus students in the Ramapo Central, Pearl River and East Ramapo School Districts in Rockland County, N.Y. The contractor is a member of The Trans Group family of companies, which is headed by NSTA Hall of Fame member John Corr. Corr is also the co-founder of Trans Tech Bus, which rolled out the first Type A all-electric eTrans school bus last year.
