Still No Trial Date Set for Chattanooga School Bus Crash

Johnthony Walker, school bus driver charged with six counts of vehicular homicide for his role in the fatal Nov. 21 crash in Chattanooga, Tennessee, remains in a Hamilton County jail awaiting trial. No date has been set.

Defense attorney Amanda Dunn told School Transportation News that Walker is scheduled to appear in court on July 20. The upcoming court date, referred to as the settlement date in Tennessee, will merely discuss the status of Walker’s case. It does not mean a settlement will be reached, she added.

This spring, Dunn successfully argued for a jury to be selected from outside of Hamilton County.

In addition to the vehicular homicide charges, a grand jury also indicted Walker on four counts of reckless aggravated assault, and one count each of reckless driving, reckless endangerment and operating a mobile device while behind the wheel of a school bus.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges in March.
