The Texas Department of Public Safety said a 10-year-old boy fell down at his school-bus stop on Monday and was run over and killed.
Sgt. Lonny Haschel, the department’s media and communications officer, told STN that that for a “yet undetermined reason,” Haschel said the school bus driver for Springtown ISD located about 30 miles northwest of Fort Worth did not see student Haven Norton approaching the bus.
The driver began to pull away from the stop at approximately 6:30 a.m. as Norton approached the bus to board. The boy tripped, fell to the ground and was run over. He died at the scene.
The bus had been stopped on the roadway with its red lights activated, added Haschel. The bus also had four students already on board and two adults, including the driver.
The incident is still under investigation.
