Employees of school bus routing and management software provider Transfinder moved in more than a month ago, but the rest of the industry now gets a peek at the company’s new corporate facility in Schenectady, N.Y. A ribbon-cutting ceremony officially opening the new building is scheduled for Thursday.
The ribbon will be cut at exactly 4:40 p.m. Eastern to mirror the company’s address of 440 State Street, a spokeswoman told STN. The spokeswoman said employees moved in on Sept. 3 “with day-to-day operations not missing a beat.”
The event represents a second accomplishment for Transfinder this year, as the company is also celebrating it’s 25th anniversary. Mayor Gary McCarthy called the new headquarters “a great addition to our new downtown.”
“We have experienced tremendous growth in recent years, expanding our organization to over 70 professional employees and have received recognition as one of Inc. 5000’s fastest growing private companies each year for the past seven years,” commented Antonio Civitella, the company’s founder, president and CEO. “My hope is that our new headquarters, which will accommodate 125 employees, contributes to the expanding vitality of Schenectady County and the region’s Tech Valley community.”
Civitella put up the lion’s share of the $7 million price tag himself, as he built and owns the building, leasing it to Transfinder. The Schenectady County Metroplex contributed a couple of hundred thousand dollars toward restoring the building’s façade and other renovation costs.
“Metroplex is proud that we were able to bring yet another job producing investment to Schenectady County,” said Ray Gillen, chair of Metroplex. “Transfinder is a great addition to the Proctors Block downtown.”
The announcement of the new headquarters was made in June 2011.
Following the ribbon cutting, Civitella and Transfinder representatives will attend the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation’s 11th Annual Building Block Party, celebrating the revitalization of State Street as a center for commerce and entertainment. The event is being held at Proctors and features culinary delights from Schenectady’s many downtown restaurants. At the event, Civitella will be honored for his economic development achievements.
“This fast growing company could have located their beautiful new $7 million headquarters anywhere in the region,” said Mary Finn, chair of the New York State Legislature’s Committee on Economic Development. “Our County economic development team worked closely with Transfinder and the City of Schenectady to keep this home-grown tech company here in Schenectady County creating new jobs and bringing new investment to our community.”
