A 12-year-old boy was struck and killed by a school bus Tuesday as he walked home from the first day of class in central Wisconsin.

Local authorities reported that the child was crossing the street when the bus came around a corner and hit him. The incident happened in Kaukauna, a town that is about 100 miles north of Milwaukee.

The boy was rushed to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The school bus was filled with students at the time of accident and witnesses heard a number of children on board crying. They were later transported home by another bus.
